I do not think life is funny in a way that means that there is only humor and lightness to life.

Every year I live I’m more convinced of the deep pockets of darkness and pain that lie in each of our lives. That darkness has the power to linger and fester and corrode the other parts of life.

But I do think that in almost every situation I’ve ever been in, even in some that have been very, very dark, there are still glimmers of light. Something that’s ironic or surprising or just funny.

And I think when we look for that funny we find a healthier balance.

Finding the light in the midst of that tedious task that comes back again and again makes it so much more bearable.

Finding something humorous in the midst of grieving doesn’t negate the sadness, it only balances it a little.

Finding something funny in the midst of huge frustrations takes the wind out of our anger’s sails.

Finding something funny to focus on when you have had it to here with your kids is just plain good for everybody.

Humor defuses tension, restores perspective and breaks the stranglehold of a bad mood.

And sometimes, recognizing the funny can open the gate to let you feel the sad and angry and lonely in a more balanced way. At the same time it takes the edge off them, helps keep those dark things from overwhelming you.

So this site is dedicated to finding the light, finding the breath, finding the funny in the midst of life. We can easily find the darkness. Sometimes it takes some searching to find the funny.

Because life is funny. Not funny, but funny.
